What Tarnoo is
A tarn is a small mountain lake. Tarnoo is an outdoor route planner: plan a route for hiking, running, cycling, gravel, mountain biking, road cycling or e-biking, and get a proper elevation profile, a surface breakdown and a sensible estimate of time and difficulty.
What is in it
- Planner with a draggable route line, waypoints, loops and out-and-back
- Elevation profile with climb detection and a per-sport difficulty rating
- Surface and way type per segment, from OpenStreetMap tags
- Official routes: thousands of waymarked hiking, cycling and MTB routes across Europe
- Highlights: peaks, viewpoints, waterfalls, castles, huts and nature reserves on the map
- Export to GPX, TCX or FIT — including turn instructions for your Garmin
- Import recordings from GPX or FIT, with speeds and the highlights you passed
How it is built
Everything runs on open data. Maps, paths, routes and highlights come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL). Route calculation runs on our own server, so your route is not handed to a third party.
What is not in it
No advertising, no trackers, no analytics, no profiling. We do not sell your data. The only cookies are the ones for signing in and your language — which is why there is no cookie banner.
Work in progress
Tarnoo is young and moving fast. Features change, and there are certainly rough edges left. Feedback is welcome.
